c)   sources of nonrenewable energy.

I chose to focus on Science because I feel there is a broad range of learning that goes on through science and the act of learning through doing. I thought it would particularly interesting to have the students look into earth natural disasters and current events that take place and find the meaning behind why such events are happening and research and find scientific reasons to support their findings. Also the effects that humans have on the world and how it is changing due to our responses.

Digital Media- New Learners of the 21st Century

Through watching this video I was truly amazed at what learning was taking place with using digital media. The students were passionate about what they were doing and took ownership over their product that they were creating. As teachers we have to prepare students for the future and digital media is the future. In watching this video it is apparent that technology is a tool and resource to enhance learning and explore critical thinking techniques.

I was particularly intrigued with the Quest to Learn school where each classroom is geared toward a media style of learning through either gaming or digital learning subjects. Students learn and create games through problem solving strategies and techniques. This keeps the students intrigued and motivated to learn while having fun doing it. The learning and assessment is the same but the product the students are creating is different, this gives the students confidence and keeps them highly motivated along the way.

Our society has evolved past normal routine of paper and pencil, chalk to chalkboard and education is being reinvented through the digital age. Digital media has changed our way of teaching to build autonomy and creativity amongst the students and learning from experiences. This allows students to innovate and produce new knowledge based on digital media and gives them the critical thinking skills teacher have longed for .

Giving Reluctant Students a Voice

I can relate to this article as I am very reserved person when it comes to speaking in public and in groups. I usually will only participate when I see fit and when I feel comfortable to do so. I have noticed this in the classroom setting as well with the level of participants- I will have the students who will participate all day long and often go off the topic because they want their voice to be heard and then I have the students who are shy and quiet and will not talk all day long. I have tried a new technique this year so that everyone gets a chance to participate by using number sticks; I will call a students number out of a jar and they answer the question. This eliminates the students who always participate and also the loud hand raisers. This gives a chance for an even playing field and everyone has a chance to participate.

By using a blog in the classroom can also give the students a reason to participate in their own way they feel comfortable. Class blogs can take away face to face humiliation and the fear of speaking in public, while still giving the students a voice. Some students find it easier to write down their thoughts and others like to voice their opinions. A blog or online forum can reach out to both types of students while still letting everyone make a contribution.

Moving at the Speed of Creativity

Moving at the Speed of Creativity is the blog I chose to follow. This blog encompasses a wide range of ideas to motivate the learner in the classroom with technology and beyond. This blog uses current events to share with students and podcasts to relate to the learner. I am the least creative in the classroom, I wish I had the time the research and find ways to be more creative with the students. I feel that using technology in the classroom will enhance my creativity in the classroom if not then at least motivate the learner since the  students are so apt with technology anyways. I have to find ways to keep up with the students and stay ahead of the curve when it comes to technology.

While reading through this blog I am already brainstorming various ways I can use media/technology in the classroom. The blogger suggests having students create their own radio show, using e books, proper ways to use youtube in the classroom and creating digital videos to encourage the students.
